Roger Marcel Contre – Burrillville

Contre, Roger Marcel, 87, a resident of Pascoag for 59 years before moving to Wakefield, R.I., died peacefully on Friday, January 18, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the beloved husband of Lorraine Vivianne (Caron) Contre for 66 years. Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Romulus and Adeline (Metivier) Contre.

Mr. Contre served honorably in the Korean War as an Air Force instructor at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas. He was employed by John Hancock Insurance Company for 31 years before retiring as a field training director.

Mr. Contre served on the Burrillville Town Council. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed skiing, hiking, camping, and traveling. He had a passion for the outdoors and the open road.

He was the loving father of Peter Contre; Colette Richard, wife of Ernest; Renee McCooey, wife of James; Michael Contre; and the late John Contre. He was the devoted grandfather of Danielle, Jeffrey, Stacy, Kristen, Kimberly, and Lisa. He was the great-grandfather of Mackenzie and Camden. He was the caring brother of Pauline Desaulniers, and his sister and brother the late Annette Contre and late Leon Contre. Roger is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial, Friday, January 25, 2019, at 11 a.m., in St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Sayles Avenue, Pascoag, R.I. Burial will be at St. Patrick Cemetery, Pascoag.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 183 Sayles Ave., Box 188, Pascoag, RI 02859, will be appreciated.
