Ballad singing, bodhran, tap and step classes at BRT

CUMBERLAND – As part of its Heritage Arts Studio initiative, Blackstone River Theatre, 549 Broad St., is offering the following classes.

• Ballad singing, taught in a group setting by Aubrey Atwater, designed for all levels, adults and teens, Wednesdays, Feb. 6-27. Fee $90; pre-payment required.

• Six-week session in bodhran (Irish drum) taught in a group setting by Kyle Forsthoff on Sundays 10-10:50 a.m. (continuing beginner/intermediate); and 11-11:50 a.m. (complete beginner).

• Six-week class in beginner tap dance for adults and teens, Kevin Doyle instructs on Wednesdays, Feb. 6, 13, 20 and March 6, 13, 20, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Fee $90. Any hard-soled shoe, taps, hard rubber or all leather is fine; wear loose, comfortable clothing.

• Continuing beginner tap dance with instructor Kevin Doyle, Wednesdays, Feb. 27 and March 27, from 6:30-8 p.m., for adults and teens who have some knowledge of basic tap terminology and would like to learn some classic tap routines such as the Waltz Clog and others. Each workshop $30.

• Adult/teen beginner Irish step dance classes with Kevin Doyle on Wednesdays, Feb. 6, 13, 20 and March 6, 13, 20, from 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. Fee for the six-week class is $90.
