Francisco M. Costa – Cumberland

Francisco M. Costa, 90, of Cumberland, passed away Wednesday, June 5, at the Miriam Hospital, Providence, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Maria J. (Antonio) Costa.

Born in Portugal, he was the son of the late Abel and Maria Costa. He moved to this country in 1956, settling in Cumberland.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Cumberland.

Francisco was an avid gardener and enjoyed fishing, hunting and making wine. He will be fondly remembered as a strong willed, hardworking and caring person who was honored to be an American. Most of all, he was the proud patriarch of his close-knit family.

He leaves his two sons, Freddy Costa and his wife Gail of Pawtucket and Charlie Costa and his partner, Trish of Cumberland; his daughter, Alda Blackwood and her husband Arthur of Lincoln; his daughter in law, Joanne Costa of Cumberland; his six grandchildren, Melissa Costa, Elizabeth Toledo, Phillip Costa, Allison Costa, Zachary Blackwood and Sara Blackwood; two great-grandchildren, Olivia Toledo and Adam Toledo; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Jose Antonio Costa.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Francisco's Life Celebration to be held with visiting hours on Sunday, June 9, from 4 to 7 p.m., and continue on Monday, June 10, at 9 a.m., in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. in the Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Drive, Cumberland. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
