RIIL Athletic Hall of Fame inducts NP’s Dandeneau on Oct. 30

NORTH PROVIDENCE – North Providence’s Jerry Dandeneau will be among the members of the Class of 2019 that will be inducted into the Rhode Island Interscholastic League High School Athletic Hall of Fame on Wednesday, Oct. 30, at the Crowne Plaza in Warwick.

Beginning with his days as the girls’ basketball and boys’ soccer coach at the R.I. School for the Deaf in the mid-1970s, Dandeneau has served the state’s high school student-athletes for the better part of five decades.

Dandeneau also served stints as the North Providence High and Scituate High baseball coach, worked as a basketball official since 1984, and acted as the RIIL’s sport director for Unified Basketball and Unified Volleyball since 2010.

Joining Dandeneau in the Class of 2019 are Mount Saint Charles hockey figures David Belisle and Brian Boucher, former North Smithfield High girls’ basketball standout Linda Cimino, former Bishop Hendricken and NFL football player Will Blackmon, and former Barrington boys’ soccer coach Ed Bradley.

Also in the class are the late Bill Falk, who was a nationally-respected pole vault mentor, as well as a cross country and track and field coach, former Providence Journal sportswriter John Gillooly, former Cranston East three-sport athlete David Harrington, and longtime football, cross country and track coach Robert Littlefield.

Chelsea Marandola, who played basketball for Johnston High in the early 2000s and became the all-time leading scorer among R.I. high school female hoop players with 2,631 career points, ex-Barrington head football coach Bill McCagney and East Greenwich field hockey coach Deb McMullen, who were also standout athletes at their respective schools, and former Toll Gate gymnastics coach Richard Stapleton round out the class.
