Harris Library will hold Summer Reading Kickoff Tuesday

WOONSOCKET – Harris Public Library, 303 Clinton St., will hold its Summer Reading Kickoff event on Tuesday, June 25, at 11 a.m., for children in kindergarten to grade 5.

During the event, students may sign up for the summer reading game and get free books and activities and attend a summer health and safety program about water safety, bike safety, pedestrian safety, staying hydrated and using sunscreen.

To play the Summer Reading Game, students in grades K-5 read six books from the time school ends to the week before school starts. For every book a student reads, they will receive a prize.

Prizes include free coupons to visit places like the Providence Children’s Museum, the Museum of Work and Culture, Roger Williams Zoo and more. Children will also get to pick a prize out of the prize box and choose a free book.

The game begins the week of July 8.

The following free performances are also offered:
• Animal Experiences with Dave Marchetti, Monday, July 8, 2-3 p.m.
• Dance of India with Shanthi Yogini, Wednesday, July 10, 2-3 p.m.
• Science show with Brian Kampper, Monday, July 15, 2-3 p.m.
• Gladys Cole Intro to Theatre, Monday July 22, 2-3 p.m.
• Magician Russ DeSimone, Monday, July 29, 2-3 p.m.
• Pow Science Volcanoes, Monday, Aug. 5, 2-3 p.m.
Free tickets for the above Woonsocket Library performers will be given out on the Monday one week prior to the show date.

The following programs are also available:
• Book Buddies for students in grades 1, 2 and 3, July 10, 17, 24, 3-4 p.m.
• Learn Chinese for ages 7-11, on Thursdays, 4-5:30 p.m., July 11, 18, 25, Aug. 1, 8, 15.
• Summer Science on Fridays, 11-12:30 p.m. for ages 8 and up, June 28, July 5, 12, 19, 26, Aug. 2, 9, 16.
