Peter Garon – Cumberland

Peter Garon, 68, passed away on Thursday, June 27, at home. He was the beloved husband of Paula (Almeida) Garon. They have been married for the past 48 years.

Born in Cumberland, he was the son of the late John R. and Anita B. (Cardin) Garon. Pete was a lifelong resident of Cumberland.

Pete was an avid motorcyclist along with his brothers. He enjoyed spending his free time attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
He was also a Boston sports fan.

He was employed by Professional Security, Cranston, for the past five years. Previously, he worked at Okonite Co., Cumberland, for many years. While employed at Okonite he served as the union president where he was passionate in fighting for the rights of his fellow co-workers.

As a young man, Pete, along with all of his brothers, spent much of his time as a volunteer for the former Berkley Fire District, Cumberland, attaining the rank of Captain.

Beside his wife he is survived by his two children Kerri A. Giorgio and her husband, Dino, of Cumberland, and Jon Garon and his wife, Juli, of Willmington, Mass. His four adored grandchildren Cassandra, Nicholas, Kendall and Parker; two brothers Arthur Garon and Robert Garon, both of Cumberland; three sisters Rita Turner of Florida, Doris Boynton of Idaho, and Mary Jane Wink of Central Falls; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Ernest Garon, Steven Garon and Raymond Garon.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Pete's Life Celebration to be held on Tuesday, July 2, with Visiting Hours from 4 to 7 p.m., and continuing on Wednesday, July 3, at 9 a.m., in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Cumberland. A prayer service will be held at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
