CHS Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony is Nov. 29 at Wright’s Farm

CUMBERLAND – The Cumberland High School Athletic Hall of Fame plans to induct six outstanding individuals and five state championship teams from its Class of 2019 on Friday, Nov. 29, at Wright’s Farm. A social at 6 p.m. will start the festivities, followed by dinner and an awards ceremony at 7 p.m.

Headlining the night will be the girls tennis’ teams from 1980-1984, which won five straight state titles under the guidance of Jane Bodner and the magnificent play of All-State players Deb Rinaldi and Kerri Maloney.

The brother and sister act of All-State shot putter Erin Drezek and All-State football player Pete Drezek are also being inducted, as well as Nicole Hanewich., who was an All-State track and field athlete and soccer player who played on the Clippers’ Division II championship team in 2003. She also coached soccer on the collegiate level at UMass-Dartmouth and Ohio Wesleyan.

Joining the list of inductees are Jay Champi, who was a multiple All-State competitor in track and cross country – winning two individual titles in the mid 1990s – and also receiving All-New England honors. Scott Yankee and John Heroux will also be inducted for their excellent baseball careers in the Clippers’ program, and the Hall of Fame committee is currently looking to contact them.

Tickets are $35 and must be reserved by Nov. 20. Contact Tom Kenwood at kenwood2@cox.net to make reservations and for more information.
