Robert R. Demers – Cranbury, N.J.

Robert R. Demers, 82, of Cranbury, N.J., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 29, 2019, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born and raised in Woonsocket, R.I., Bob moved to New Jersey, residing in Lawrence Township for 25 years prior to settling in Cranbury 28 years ago.

He graduated from Rhode Island School of Design with a degree in design animation and went on to work as a mechanical engineer for RCA (David Sarnoff Research Center) for 42 years, until his retirement in 2000. He was a dedicated employee who held multiple patents and served as project manager when they became Stanford Research Institute.

Bob met his wife, Pat, at the Princeton Ski Club and together they enjoyed 28 years of marriage. They were very active with NAMI Mercer and were awarded their prestigious Pillar Award for outstanding service. He was also a longtime attendee of The First Presbyterian Church of Cranbury and volunteered with Skeets Pantry. Bob was a passionate Red Sox fan and enjoyed traveling to Sanibel, Fla., to watch their spring training. He loved spending time outdoors at their home on Brainerd Lake, gardening and barbecuing, but was happiest when surrounded by his loving family.

Predeceased by his parents, Leo and Cecile (Vadnais) Demers, he is survived by his devoted wife, Pat (Harris) Demers, of Cranbury; his children, Richard Demers of Pennington, Lisa Cashman (Richard) of Raleigh, N.C., and Peter Demers (Sharon) of Hopewell; his brother, Rene Demers (Jeanne) of Woonsocket, R.I.; his wife Pat’s sons, Erik Bjornen of Staten Island, N.Y., Evan Bjornen (Luis Gutierrez) of Brooklyn, N.Y., and John Bjornen (Cee Brown) of Sag Harbor, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Khloe Praski (Justin) of Cary, N.C., Travor Cashman of Raleigh, N.C., Amanda and Trent Demers of Hopewell, and Jessy Harris (Ryan) of Alexandria, Va.; and his great-granddaughter, Clara Belle Harris.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at 11 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church of Cranbury, 22 South Main St., Cranbury, N.J. Interment will follow at Brainerd Cemetery in Cranbury. Cremation was private.
