PawSox host 5th annual steak dinner for veterans

PAWTUCKET – The Pawtucket Red Sox commemorated the Veterans Day holiday by welcoming veterans to its 5th annual steak dinner in the PawSox Clubhouse at McCoy Stadium on Nov. 8.

For the fifth straight year, the PawSox presented a four-course steak dinner for a number of area veterans. The guests also received a tour of McCoy and gifts from the PawSox. The honorees are veterans from the YWCA of Rhode Island Gateway to Independence, the R.I. Fire Chiefs Honor Flights, Walter Gatchell VFW Post 306, and R.I. Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association.

“Hosting veterans on Nov. 13, 2015, was our first community event after several of us joined the ballclub, and it was inspiring,” PawSox President Charles Steinberg said. “We have since turned this into a traditional gathering that we look forward to around the Veterans Day holiday.

“For the past four seasons during each home game at McCoy Stadium, we have also conducted a special ceremony, ‘In Debt to a Vet,’ that allows our fans to express their appreciation, as veterans stand on the field between innings and experience a beautiful, nightly, sustained, heart-felt standing ovation.

“These modest gestures allow us to continue to demonstrate our appreciation to those who have served our country,” he said.
