Slipped bandana leads to two suspects in Pawtucket store robbery

PAWTUCKET – Police have arrested a Massachusetts couple who allegedly robbed the West Mart convenience store at 248 West Ave. in Pawtucket on Nov. 14. Rebecca Vasconcellos, 30, of 57 Maple Spring Road in Wareham, Mass., and Erik Reardon, 37, of that same address, face multiple charges after being accused of robbing the store at knifepoint around 10 a.m. that day.

Police said both suspects entered the store with bandanas covering their faces while brandishing knives. They approached the clerk and the clerk attempted to fend them off with a baseball bat. One of the suspects was able to successfully open the register and take an undetermined amount of money prior to fleeing. During the struggle, the bandana worn by the suspect later identified as Vasconcellos came down, exposing a tattoo on her face.

A check of the area by patrol officers located a female matching the description of Vasconcellos. She was transported to police headquarters for further investigation.

Detectives interviewed Vasconcellos and subsequently charged her with first-degree robbery and conspiracy. Police were then able to determine that her boyfriend, Reardon, was the second suspect.

On Nov. 16, Reardon was taken into custody by the Wareham Police Department on an affidavit and arrest warrant stemming from the convenience store robbery. He also faces charges with Wareham police.
