Three suspects sought in shooting near CF High

CENTRAL FALLS – Three suspects, two identified as Izaiha Ortiz and Ian Melendez and a third still unidentified, are being sought in connection to a shooting near Central Falls High School on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

At around 10:21 that day, there were shots fired in the area of the high school. There were immediate reports of a male suspect wearing a red jacket with hoodie fleeing the area, heading south on Illinois Street with another male in black hooded sweatshirt and pants. A third male was seen fleeing east on Summer Street. The male in red jacket was the shooter. There were four 9mm cartridge cases found on the sidewalk across from the high school.

Officers and detectives began canvassing area for witnesses, evidence, and any surveillance video from area. There have been no reports of any injuries to date. A thorough investigation led to the identification of these suspects, said police, and it was quickly confirmed that none of the three suspects came from the high school.

The investigation led to the identity of Ortiz being the one in the red jacket and Melendez being the one in the black hooded sweatshirt. The third male involved has not been identified yet.

Anyone with information on their whereabouts should contact Det. Jeff Araujo at jaraujo@cfpd.centralfallsri.gov or 401-616-2516.
