Cumberland Parks & Rec again offers spring golf clinics for children, adults

CUMBERLAND – The Cumberland Parks & Recreation Department will again organize beginner golf clinics this spring for children ages 6-15, as well as adults, at Wentworth Hills Country Club on 27 Bow St. in Plainville, Mass.

The children’s clinics consist of four one-hour lessons, and they can attend the clinics during the first four Saturdays in May, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., or the first four Sundays in May, from 10 to 11 a.m.

The clinics are geared to those new to the game, as well as those with some golf experience. Among the topics that will be covered are safety, the swing with irons and woods, the short game, and golf etiquette.

The cost of each children’s clinic is $139.

The adult clinics also consist of four one-hour lessons, each spaced a week apart (the same day and time for four weeks).

Each lesson will focus on a specific part of the game, and at the end of each clinic, adults will have knowledge of the basic fundamentals, such as how to use a full swing with irons and woods, and “short game” skills (pitching, chipping and putting).

Golfers can attend the clinics during the first four Saturdays in May, from 10 to 11 a.m., or the first four Sundays in May, from noon to 1 p.m.

The cost of each adult clinic is $179.

The instructor for the clinics is Barrie Bruce, a PGA teaching professional from the Barrie Bruce Golf Schools. Equipment and practice balls will be provided if needed. All participants need are a pair of sneakers and a good attitude.

Call the Parks and Recreation Department at 401-334-9996 for more details or to reserve a space in any of the clinics. Reservations must be made at least two weeks before the first scheduled session.
