BRT presents Pesaturo and Black for duo CD release

Cumberland native Cory Pesaturo and fiddler Mari Black will perform at Blackstone River Theatre on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 8 p.m.

CUMBERLAND – Blackstone River Theatre, 549 Broad St., will present an evening of music from around the world featuring Cory Pesaturo and Mari Black on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 8 p.m.

Fiddler Black and accordionist Pesaturo will celebrate the release of their first duo CD “Unscripted” – a collaboration between two world champion musicians in which the music “rarely went as planned but always ended up better than envisioned,” according to a press release.

The CD features rhythmic jazz tunes, blazing klezmer horas, passionate tangos, playful American rags, driving Celtic reels, and more.

Three-time World Accordion Champion and Cumberland native Pesaturo is the only person to ever win the trio of World Championships on Acoustic, Digital, and Jazz Accordion, and is the only accordion graduate of New England Conservatory of Music. He has made four appearances at the White House starting at age 11, including a performance for a State Dinner which made him the youngest person to do so. In 2017, Pesaturo became a Guinness World Record Holder, as RedBull flew him to Austria to break the Marathon Accordion Record, in which he played for more than 32 hours. He has given two TED talks and two Google talks about his work to revolutionize the much maligned instrument. He also teaches masterclasses on improvisation worldwide.

Black burst onto the international stage when she became Scotland’s Glenfiddich Fiddle Champion, two-time U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Champion, and two-time Canadian Maritime Fiddle Champion, all within a three-year period. Black has performed on five continents, playing everywhere from Celtic Festivals to Carnegie Hall and appearing on prominent radio including the BBC and NPR. Holding advanced degrees from the Yale School of Music and Columbia University, Black teaches regularly at fiddle camps and workshops around the county.

Admission is $18 in advance, and $22 on the day of the show. For reservations, call Blackstone River Theatre at 401-725-9272 or visit for more information.
