Elizabeth Huners – Smithfield

Elizabeth (Fredericks) Huners, 96, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2020.

She was the wife of the late Arthur D. Huners. Born in Hollis, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late William L. and Clara (Corwin) Fredericks. Mrs. Huners lived in Wantagh, N.Y., from 1955 to 2007 and Greenville, R.I., for 12 years.

She graduated from Katherine Gibbs and worked at New York Society for the Blind until her marriage. After raising her family, she worked as a traffic manager for Rothkoff Manufacturing and Sigma Marketing for many years before retiring. While in Wantagh, N.Y., she was a member of the Wantagh Memorial Congregational Church and served in various capacities over the years, including Church Treasurer, Church Council Secretary, Women’s Fellowship Stewardship Chairman, 2nd and 1st VP of Women’s Fellowship and Women’s Fellowship Circle Chairman and was a Sunday School teacher.

While living in Greenville, R.I., she was a member of Greenville Baptist Church. She was an avid reader and was a member of Cicerio’s Circle, a book club at the Greenville Library. She was also a brownie leader and cub scout den mother.

She was the devoted mother of Wendy H. Blanks of Fairview, Texas; David A. Huners of Herndon, Va., and Nancy E. Bates-Brown of Smithfield, R.I. She was the sister of the late William L. Fredericks Jr. and is also survived by nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Her funeral and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to Wantagh Memorial Congregational United Church of Christ or Alzheimers Association will be appreciated.
