CVS opens 10 new testing sites

WOONSOCKET – CVS announced on Thursday the company is opening 10 new drive-thru testing sites at locations around Rhode Island.

The company also opened a new testing site this week just over the state line in Bellingham, Mass.

CVS testing sites locations now open in Rhode Island include Narragansett, East Greenwich, Westerly, Johnston, West Warwick, Providence, Cranston, East Providence and at Twin River Casino in Lincoln.

The new testing sites will be located at select CVS Pharmacy locations. The sites will utilize self-swab tests and will require patients to stay in their cars as they approach a pharmacy drive-up window. A CVS Pharmacy team member will observe the swab process to ensure it is done properly. Tests will then be sent to a third-party lab for processing, with results expected in about three days.

“CVS Health has been at the forefront of helping our nation scale-up COVID-19 testing capabilities, and we’re proud to meet our goal of establishing 1,000 testing sites in communities across the country,” said Larry J. Merlo, President and CEO of CVS Health. “Opening access to testing in more locations using our drive-thru window represents an important milestone in our response to the pandemic. We remain grateful for the daily efforts and sacrifices of our front-line colleagues who make the continued expansion of our testing possible.”

The company hopes to be able to process up to 1.5 million tests per month.

Appointments are required in advance. Patients can register for an appointment on CVS.com beginning Friday, May 29.
