North Providence High captures RIIL’s Credit Unions Spirit Challenge

NORTH PROVIDENCE – North Providence High was the winning school in the RIIL’s Credit Unions Spirit Challenge, a series of head-to-head matchups on the RIIL’s Twitter account that gave students, faculty members, fans, alumni, and community members across the state a chance to show their support for each of the state’s 56 high schools.

The social media event began on May 18 and recently ended with the championship round, which saw 2,016 people cast their votes and the Cougars defeat Chariho, 55.8 to 44.2.

North Providence had reached the finals by defeating Johnston in the opening round, Cranston East in the second round, Smithfield in the Round of 16, Cumberland in the quarterfinals, and Davies in the semifinals.

Two of the Cougars’ rounds went down to the final minutes. In its Final Four matchup, the Cougars edged the Patriots, 51.9 to 48.1, and in the Elite Eight, the Cougars nipped the Clippers, 50.5 to 49.5.
