Tillinghast, Lee show appreciation for police

NORTH PROVIDENCE – Friends Jarrod Tillinghast and James “JL” Lee teamed up again last week to show their support for the community, this time delivering 25 lobster rolls made by Lee to the North Providence Police Department on June 16.

Legendary Boxing owner Tillinghast, who is white, and Lee, who is black, of JL’s Dana’s Sports Lounge, said they wanted to do something to thank first responders at a time when they’re coming under heavy criticism due to incidents of brutality, including the killing of George Floyd by police officer Derek Chauvin in Minnesota.

“We are always looking to help or better the community any way we can, “said Tillinghast.

He said he’s worked with physical education teachers to help students who need guidance, stability and training, particularly at-risk teens with potential.

Lee does the same, always helping him out with turkey drives and toy drives, said Tillinghast.

“It’s all about giving back and showing unity,” he said. “In North Providence, we don’t see the color of someone’s skin. We spread love. I tell my sons Sebastian and Julian daily that love wins.”
