Moreno pursuing second term

PAWTUCKET – Freshman Pawtucket school board member and lifelong resident Roberto Moreno announced that he is seeking re-election to serve a second term on the committee.

Moreno, 26, said his first term on the school board was “extremely productive.” He serves as co-chairman of the facilities subcommittee and serves on the labor subcommittee and policy subcommittee.

Moreno served on the fee negotiation team for the procurement of professional services for the completion of the Pawtucket School Department’s RIDE Stage II submission and served on the negotiation team for the purchase of the former St. Leo’s Church and Rectory. He also serves on the Ad Hoc Panel to Review School Budget Operations as well as the Mayor’s Youth Scholarship Commission.

During his first term, he toured all 16 Pawtucket public schools with principals to discuss the academic culture in the district and to get a look at what goes on in classrooms.

“My first term on the committee has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my lifetime,” he said. “Two years ago, residents showed their confidence in me to advocate for children and parents. I am asking voters to consider me again this fall. Together, we still have a lot of work to do.”

Moreno says the work includes an aggressive schedule to revitalize every school in the district.

Moreno said in his duties as a public servant he has also been fortunate enough to help the community, having held a hygiene material drive to aid homeless residents and organized a helmet giveaway that will be rescheduled due to COVID-19.
