William A. Lewis – Lincoln

William A. Lewis – Lincoln

William A. Lewis, 76, of Lincoln, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 21, 2020, after a long battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family in East Lyme, Conn.

Born on April 5, 1944, “Uncle Bill” as he was lovingly referred to by all his family members, was in short, one of the most caring, giving, and kindest souls. He lived his life proudly for his family and leaves behind many generations. Bill is predeceased by his father, Albert W. Lewis, and his mother, Mary A. Lewis (Crawley), both of Lincoln, R.I. His compassion and generosity was evident when after his father’s passing in 1975, he cared for his mother until her passing at 101 years young in 2013.

Bill is survived by his sister, Mary C. Rochelle (Lewis), and her husband, Ronnie, of East Lyme, Conn., and his fraternal twin brother, Robert M. Lewis, and his wife, Susan, of Lincoln, R.I. He leaves behind seven nieces and nephews and 11 great-nieces and nephews which he loved and cherished as if they were his own.

Bill’s smile was infectious and his voice was soothing. His generosity and thoughtfulness was unmatched. If you were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him, you are a better person because of him. He loved to love! He lived like he danced, with a high spirit and a gentle grace. Uncle Bill had a love for old records, movies, and would never turn down a “coffee cabinet,” a staple in his home. Last June, he was able to make his lifelong wish of visiting his family in Roscommon, Ireland, a reality, despite the perils of cancer. His fond memories of that trip can only be described as pure elation and genuine happiness that lasted with him through his last days.

Uncle Bill will be greatly missed by all his family members, immediate and extended, as well as the friends he has touched along the way. If you were lucky enough to receive a phone call on your birthday from him, you were greeted by his velvety smooth ballad of “Happy Birthday” that always ended with “and many mooore…”. Heaven has just received another angel to watch over us.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 25, 2020, at 10 a.m., at St. Ambrose Church, School Street, Lincoln, R.I.
