Roselli announces candidacy for District 23

BURRILLVILLE – Paul Roselli, a Burrillville resident active in environmental efforts in the state, has declared his candidacy as a Democrat for Senate District 23.

Sen. Jessica de la Cruz currently holds the seat in Distrct 23, which covers parts of North Smithfield, Burrillville and Glocester.

“This is a challenging time for all those in our district and our state,” Roselli said in a campaign announcement last week. “Our greatest challenges and opportunities lie ahead: dealing with the pandemic, health care, our economy, energy policy, the environment, the climate crisis and especially our sense of place.”

Roselli was a leading member in the fight against the Invenergy power plant and has been active in the statewide environmental movement and other volunteer efforts. He said in a press release he wants to focus on changes to health care, energy efficiency, the destruction of natural resources and reducing tax burdens for individuals and small businesses in the wake of COVID-19.

“I look at all these issues with a holistic approach. Burrillville, Glocester and North Smithfield are places I know well as I have worked with many in the environmental and business community for many years. In these challenging times, we need a voice as today we don’t have one. We need someone who will bring unity while at the same time working to change the status quo,” he said.

Roselli previously ran for the seat in 2018 but lost in the Democratic primary to Kevin Heitke.
