Woman hospitalized after car veers off Diamond Hill Road

Police responded around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening to the Cumberland Gulf station, where a woman veered off the road into the woods following a medical incident.

WOONSOCKET – A woman was taken to the hospital after her car veered off Diamond Hill Road during a medical incident near the Cumberland-Woonsocket border Wednesday evening.

According to Deputy Chief Michael Lemoine, Officer Ethan Smith was driving on Diamond Hill Road when he noticed a car operating left-of-center in the oncoming lane. The driver, later identified as Jeannie Lemon, 60, appeared to be suffering from a medical incident.

Smith attempted to stop the vehicle, but the car accelerated, eventually veering off the road just past the intersection with Bound Road. The car flipped over and came to rest on its roof in the woods across the street from the Cumberland Gulf station.

Both Woonsocket and Cumberland Police as well as fire and rescue vehicles responded to the incident. The woman was brought to Rhode Island Hospital and later released.

A tow truck was used to remove the vehicle from the woods.
