He enjoyed taking road trips across the country, particularly to Civil War and American Revolution sites, and was a history buff. For many years he volunteered to clean up and maintain the historical cemeteries in the town of Lincoln.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Laura Jane Martin, and her husband, Ezra D. Feldman, of Bennington, Vt.; one son, Thomas J. Martin, and his wife, Baylie (Cowart) Martin, of Keene, N.H.; three brothers, Robert F. Martin of Tolland, Conn., Richard Martin of Eastham, Mass., and Ronald J.
