Woonsocket L.L.’s Jim Carr golf tourney takes place Aug. 22

WOONSOCKET – The 27th annual Woonsocket Little League Jim Carr Memorial Jimmy Fund golf tournament will return to Triggs Country Club in Providence on Saturday, Aug. 22, and because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the state’s social distancing guidelines, the tournament’s organizers have made some changes.

This year’s tourney will not have a shotgun start, and each participating foursome will have a tee time that will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis. The earliest tee time available is 9 a.m.

And in place of the traditional post-tournament tailgate barbeque, a choice of sandwiches will be provided, along with a beer or a soft drink at The Rescue Pub at the course.

The tournament, which is the main charity event that is sponsored by the Woonsocket Little League, was established in the memory of Jim Carr, a longtime Little League manager and volunteer who passed away after battling cancer.

Over the past 26 years, the tourney has raised a total of $296,835, with all the proceeds going to the Jimmy Fund.

The cost for a foursome is $500, and the tournament is also currently in need of sponsors and gifts that can be used as prizes or raffle items.

Gerry Forget is returning as the tourney’s chairman, and any business or individual who would like to enter a foursome, donate prizes, sponsor a hole, or make a cash donation should contact Forget at 75 Larch St., Woonsocket, R.I. 02895 or via email at beach_pete@hotmail.com or phone at 401-486-5287.
