LINCOLN – XGolf, an indoor golf simulator, is looking to open at the Lincoln Mall property at 622 George Washington Highway.

Brian McClellan, one of three owners planning to open XGolf in Lincoln, said they’re looking to have six high-tech simulator bays employing state-of-the-art technology to measure ball and swing data.

Essentially, guests hit a real golf ball, which is automatically teed up before them, at a screen that provides instant feedback.

The technology measures the motion of the golf ball, the path of the club, angle of attack, trajectory and velocity of each hit. “Following the laws of physics, these measurements allow us to perfectly replicate the golf ball flight,” the company’s website states.

McClellan said he and his business partners decided to bring XGolf to Rhode Island after visiting one of its franchises in Wayland, Mass.

“We would drive up to XGolf in Wayland every Monday this past winter to play on the simulator for a few hours,” he said. “We thought it would be a good idea and opportunity to open one in Rhode Island. There’s nothing like this around.”

McClellan said in addition to six simulator bays, they’re hoping to have a bar to serve up craft beers and other beverages.

“XGolf is a really good concept,” he said. “The overall ambiance is good and the technology is the best in the business.”

He said the experience is great for golfers looking for some extra practice, those looking to hit the links in the winter months or after dark, or amateurs looking for something new and different to do with their friends.

“It can be a lot more convenient than being at the golf course,” he said. “And it’s available rain or shine.”

He said construction on the space next to Target, which formerly housed MattressFirm, is expected to begin in the next week or so. He’s optimistically aiming to open by mid-November.

“We’re looking forward to it,” he said. “We’re really excited.”

XGolf owners will appear before the Town Council on Sept. 15 for a public hearing on their application for a liquor license. The company is also up for a victualling license to serve bar food, as well as a game room license.
