Slater Park will host Paws in the Park Halloween event

PAWTUCKET – The Pawtucket Dog Park Committee is proud to present “an autumn distraction to all the COVID cancellations and madness.” Join in Oct. 3 at Slater Park as the group holds its Paws In The Park Halloween Event. Sponsored by Mercurio Group Real Estate, this event will combine an obstacle course and costume contest to follow.

The obstacle course kicks off at 9 a.m. and is for everyone.

“You don’t have to be a trained expert or have your dog enrolled in an agility school to enjoy this ‘beginners’ obstacle course,” states a release. “Run through tunnels, over A-frames, around weave poles, have a five-second sit/stay and maybe you and your pup can win a prize if your time is one of the fastest.”

This is a timed event and the top three times from both the large and small dog sides will win ribbons with a top prize going to first place.

The Costume Contest will immediately follow the obstacle course and take place at Picnic Field Site #13 (aka the Philharmonic Stage) next to the carousel. The categories this year include: homemade, sports theme/figure and another animal (dress your pup as another animal). There will also be a prize for Best in Show. Local personalities will be judging an event promising to be a blast for watching as the contestants stroll across the stage to show off their creations, say organizers.

This event will comply with all COVID-19 social distancing and disinfecting protocols and face masks will be required of all participants as well as spectators.

While this is a free event to participate in, participants are required to pre-register. To do so, visit and go to the Halloween Event tab for information. For further information or questions, email
