Lawton points to success in re-election campaign

SMITHFIELD – Town Council Vice President Michael Lawton, a Democrat, said in a press release it has been a privilege to serve the taxpayers of Smithfield over the past four years.

He stated during the last few years, the council has worked in a bipartisan manner and though a pandemic to continue to provide the residents of Smithfield with the high level of service they are accustomed to receiving.

“We have worked collectively as a group to oversee long overdue and major infrastructure improvements, including renovations to each of the town’s water tanks, resurfacing town roads, and new construction at each of our elementary schools. At the same time, we have enacted fiscally responsible budgets which have held the line on spending. It is extremely important that the town completes renovations to each of its elementary schools and addresses the debt service associated with the school bonds.

“We continue to scrutinize municipal finances to minimize future impacts to the Smithfield taxpayers,” he said.
