Santucci says council work provided experience

SMITHFIELD – Paul Santucci says his previous experience as Smithfield Town Council president affords him insight into how the state delegation should address the needs of Senate District 22.

“I worked to bring Smithfield Water Supply into a state of good repair,” he said. “As a member of the Smithfield Charter Review Commission, I crafted a capital plan that gives Smithfield schools a seat at the table with respect to long-term capital needs planning.”

A major challenge to most communities is the sustainability of post-employment benefits, he said. On the Town Council, he initiated changes that lowered OPEB costs.

“Smithfield has a mountain of economic development opportunity for District 22,” said the candidate. “This area needs basic infrastructure to grow. I pledge to take leadership on this opportunity.”

He said he successfully navigated improvements in the Smithfield police and fire pension plans, leading to savings that were reinvested into both plans.

“The legislature needs to address our state pension plans,” he said.
