Brien looks to brewery industry to spur development

WOONSOCKET – Jon Brien said he’s heard so many people say that “you don’t come to Woonsocket unless you live here, work here or know someone here.”

As mayor, he said, “I will work to change the negative attitude that the rest of the state has toward the city of Woonsocket. Woonsocket has the infrastructure and empty mill buildings that are needed to recruit the multimillion dollar microbrewery industry to our city.”

All anyone has to do is look at Pawtucket to realize Woonsocket’s potential, he said. In 2019, more than 135,000 people went to Pawtucket’s microbreweries, achieving approximately $4.5 million in beer and spirits sales alone across six businesses.

“In order to create a city that people want to visit, we need a mayor who is capable of working collaboratively with other elected officials to make this a reality for Woonsocket,” he said.
