Fields of Dreams Senior Softball League wraps up regular season, kicks off postseason Friday

WOONSOCKET – Dr. Day Care wrapped up an outstanding regular season in the Field of Dreams Senior Softball League last Friday at Cold Spring Park’s Baldelli Field by posting a 19-11 victory over Village Haven that was the two-time defending champion’s 11th win in 12 games.

Dan Hurst led Dr. Day Care’s offense with four hits, two of them doubles. Rich Croteau added two doubles and a single, Wayne Elderkin and Bill Theroux each had a double and two singles, Steve Tucker collected a double and a single, and Rich Croteau, Jim Penta, and Tom O’Brien also joined the multiple-hit club.

Ben Lapierre and Ted Hebert led Village Haven with three hits apiece. Tom Auclair doubled and singled, and Lou Tomaselli, Jim Richards, and Norm Boulin each had two singles.

Also last Friday, Ronzio Pizza & Sub defeated Lepine Financial Services, 17-5, in a game that saw Willie Barr lead Ronzio’s attack with two doubles and a single, Mike Donofrio and Sonny Desjardin each collect three hits, and Jerry Smith and Paul Pion belt home runs.

Joe Cassiere, Ricky Wilson, and Todd Tucker also had two hits each for Ronzio, whose winning pitcher was Dan Pion, and Al Rich and Bob Brickley added two hits each for Lepine.

The playoffs will begin on Friday, with Dr. Day Care taking on Lepine, which is 3-9, and Ronzio facing Village Haven in a battle of 5-7 teams.
