Union Free Library has mobile hot spots available

NORTH PROVIDENCE – The North Providence Union Free Library, 1810 Mineral Spring Ave., now has 21 mobile hot spots available to North Providence residents for borrowing.

Patrons may borrow the hot spot for one week for internet home use. For more information, visit the library or call 401-353-5600, ext. 2. Patrons who borrow a mobile hotspot must sign a contract upon checkout.

The Mystery Book Club will meet virtually on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m. This month’s book is “Above Suspicion” by Lynda LaPlante. Copies are available at the Circulation Department. Registration is required; call Sara at the Reference Desk at 401-353-5600, ext. 3.

The Virtual Science Club for 3rd- to 5th-graders meets on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. through Dec. 1. Children will be shown STEAM experiments and activities to try at home. Call the Children’s Department to register.

Trick-or-Treat at the library on Halloween, Saturday, Oct. 31, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Staff will be in costume and ready to hand out a special candy or non-candy treat to those who visit in their Halloween costumes. The event will also feature a pumpkin patch backdrop for anyone who would like to take Halloween selfies. The treats are being packaged now so that they can be eaten on Halloween.

The library announces its 2020 North Providence Union Free Library Book Character Election: Elsa Oldenburg, president, and Anna Oldenburg, vice president, from Disney’s “Frozen,” vs. Hermione Granger, president, and Ginny Weasley, vice president, from “Harry Potter.” Patrons can vote using the Survey Monkey link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/8JF2DLF . One vote per person. Election results will be posted on Nov. 4. Stop by the Children’s Department to get an “I Voted” sticker once you’ve submitted your choice.

A Virtual Storytime is posted on Facebook every week at nplibChildrens for Children’s Department happenings, and Northprovidencelibrary for all other library happenings.
