Plymouth man killed in Burrillville off-roading accident

BURRILLVILLE – The Burrillville Police Department has identified the man who died in a fatal Jeep crash early Sunday morning as Jose Zuniga, a 29-year-old from Plymouth, Mass.

Police say Zuniga was off-roading on a property owned by the Boy Scouts of America off Munyon Trail when the Jeep he was riding in rolled over in a sandpit. Zuniga was ejected from the vehicle and later life-flighted from the scene of the crash to UMass Medical Center in Worcester. He was pronounced dead from his injuries at the hospital on Sunday.

Two others who were riding in the Jeep survived the crash. Anthony Pollini, a 19-year-old from Rockland, Mass., was driving the vehicle, while Laura Damore, a 25-year-old from Rockland, Mass., and Zuniga's girlfriend, was in the backseat. Police said they believe both survivors were wearing seatbelts but Zuniga was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Pascoag Rescue responded to the crash, which took place around 12:35 a.m. on Sunday.

The three individuals were off-roading on a property on the western side of Burrillville that abuts the George Washington Management Area.

Police said they are still investigating the incident and reviewing it with the attorney general's office.
