Woonsocket police seeking help in dog abuse case

WOONSOCKET – The Woonsocket Police Department is seeking information about a chihuahua who appears to have been severely abused.

Police said the chihuahua, named Helen, was found on Elm Street on Dec. 28. She had suffered serious head trauma and was so badly injured veterinarians had to remove both her eyes. She was treated at Tufts Veterinary Medical Center and later adopted by a member of the Tufts staff.

Police said the injuries were consistent with a crime and are seeking information that could assist in the case. They believe Helen is between six months and one year old. Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Scott Breguet at sbreguet@woonsocketri.org or 401-356-4759.
