Joan E. O’Neill – Lincoln

Joan E. O’Neill – Lincoln

Joan E. O’Neill, 89, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter Mary on Tuesday, January 5, 2021.

She was the beloved wife of 57 years to the late Vincent P. O’Neill. Joan was the daughter of the late Raymon Nunez and Ida (Trett) Hoar, and she lived most of her life in Pawtucket. Five years ago, she moved to Atria Senior Living in Lincoln, where she became an active and treasured member of the community.

She attended East High School (now Tolman) and later graduated from the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. In her 39 years as a registered nurse, she worked at the former Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket, Notre Dame Hospital in Central Falls, and, for 23 years, the Rhode Island School for the Deaf, where she performed hearing tests throughout the state. She retired in 1991.

In 1972, Joan and Vin purchased a home in Touisset Point in Warren, where they spent summers for over 40 years, time they truly cherished with family and friends. As a mother and grandmother, Joan was strong, patient, and full of wisdom and loving devotion. Always a joyful and warm presence, Joan, was fondly known to her husband, and her entire family as “Red.” She adored parties, games, a good joke, desserts, and any excuse to gather with her large family and to dance and sing to Frank Sinatra. She was an expert knitter and had a passion for movies and her deep faith. Her laugh could light up any room and she will be greatly missed by her family and dear friends.

She is survived by her eight children: Vincent O’Neill Jr.; Timothy O’Neill and his wife, Jennifer; Peter O’Neill and his wife, Margaret; Christopher O’Neill and his wife, Judith; Mary Murray and her husband, Stephen; Elizabeth Bradley and her husband, Michael; John O’Neill and his wife, Roberta; and Anne Sebastian and her husband, Kurt. She also leaves 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late William Nunez.

Due to current circumstances, Joan’s Mass of Christian Burial will be video live streamed and available to view right from Joan’s obituary page on the O’Neill Funeral Home website, on Tuesday, January 12, at 10 a.m. The burial in Mount Saint Mary Cemetery in Pawtucket will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Joan can be made to Hope Health Hospice and Palliative Care, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI, 02904.
