Old police motorcycle off the table for Cumberland

CUMBERLAND – Former Cumberland Police Officer Alan Milligan’s efforts to raise the $25,000 needed to buy back the town’s old police motorcycle and give it to the town came to an end as 2020 wound down.

Milligan told The Breeze that he didn’t receive the support he needed in both monetary donations and spreading the word about the effort, citing a possible mixture of unemployment, the pandemic, and “a current culture where history does not seem to matter” as the possible reasons it came up short.

Milligan, whose father Ken was one of those who rode the rare 1964 Harley-Davidson Servi-Car from Rogeski Motorcycle Co. of Woonsocket, said he called the owner of the motorcycle, John Moulton of California, to let him know. He said there was one Cumberland resident who was interested in purchasing the motorcycle, and he put him in touch with Moulton.

At last check before Milligan called off the efforts to bring the motorcycle home to the Cumberland Police Department, his online fundraiser had raised about $3,000, with two-thirds of that from one donor.
