Walter W. England III, 77, passed away Friday, March 12, 2021, at Miriam Hospital in Providence.

He was the husband of the beloved Sandra J (Saville) England. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on March 4. Born in Central Falls, he was the son of the late Walter W. and Velida (Cantara) England Jr. Walter resided in Cumberland for the past 55 years, previously residing in Pawtucket.

Walter was an Air Force veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Germany where his assignment was midair refueling.

Walter loved dogs and was an avid cyclist and skier. He enjoyed skiing all over the world, including the Tazman Glacier in New Zealand, once by helicopter and a second time by airplane. He has hiked Mt. Washington in New Hampshire to ski down Tuckerman’s Ravine. He also had the patience to teach his grandchildren to ski. Walter was an enthusiastic NASCAR fan. He enjoyed watching the races on television and had also attended races in Louden, N.H., and Daytona, Fla.

Walter and Sandra loved to travel throughout the world. They have visited all 50 states and many countries. They visited many popular locations worldwide and especially enjoyed national parks. Walter was known to try anything, including a hot air balloon ride over Mt. Rushmore. Every summer they had an exciting vacation planned for the family.

Walter designed packaging for products made by Tupperware, North Smithfield, R.I., Kidde Products in Avon Mass., Hasbro Toys, Pawtucket R.I., and did various freelance work for several other companies throughout the years. After “retiring,” Walter worked for First Student, Lincoln R.I., and was delighted to drive a school bus for children with different abilities. He was also one, of just a few, that drove the authentic British double decker bus for the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council.

Alongside his beloved wife, Sandra, he is survived by his children, Cynthia Thompson of Woodbury, Vt., Mark England and his wife, Dorothy, of West Chester, N.Y., and Brenda Simpson of Glendale, R.I.; one sister, Lucille Paradis of West Warwick; his six grandchildren: Cassandra and Brent Thompson, Marina and Tyler England, and Brooke and Julia Simpson; two great-grandsons, Tobin and Gus, and several nieces and nephews.
