James R. Laskey – Cumberland

James R. Laskey, 78, of Cumberland, and formerly of Boston, passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at the Miriam Hospital, Providence.

He was the beloved husband of Therese (Maynard) Laskey, and they had been married for the past 28 years.

Born in Boston, he was the son of the late William and Vera (Galvin) Laskey. He resided in Cumberland for the past 20 years, previously residing in Providence.

Mr. Laskey dedicated his life and career to service in the United States Marine Corps. He served our country proudly for 20 years in many capacities. He attained the rank of 1st Sergeant and was involved in operations during the Vietnam War during his career.

Following his honorable and faithful service to our country, Mr. Laskey was a member of the Marine Corps League for 53 years, having served as National Commandant for two years. This organization aids in promoting the interests of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Jim enjoyed military history, traveling the world, and spending time with his family. Those who love him will always remember his engaging smile.

In addition to his wife, Therese, he leaves his children, Tracy Laskey of Newport, and James Laskey Jr. of Murrieta, Calif.; his beloved grandson, Alex Laskey; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late William Laskey Jr. and Irene Haverty.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Jim's Life Celebration to be held with visiting hours on Sunday, March 21, 2021, from 5 to 8 p.m., and continue on Monday at 9 a.m., in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Route 122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., in the St. John Vianney Church, Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Burial with military honors will follow in the R.I. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Marine Corps League, or the Young Marines of the Marine Corps.
