Fernando F. Depina – North Providence

Fernando F Depina., 88, of North Providence, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 21, 2021, at the Miriam Hospital, Providence, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the husband of Edna (Perreira) DePina and they had been married for the past 54 years.

Born in Matanca, Portugal, he was the son of the late Antonio and Anna DePina. At the age of 19 he joined the Portuguese Miitary then in 1958 he moved to Brazil. He met the love of his life and married in 1967 and then one year later he moved to the United States, settling in Cumberland, Pawtucket and North Providence.

He was employed as a machine operator for the Standard Nut and Bolt Company in Cumberland, retiring in 1994.

Fernando had a passion for spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters. He enjoyed traveling, carpentry and woodworking, fishing and watching soccer games. He was a loyal and dedicated Benfica fan. Those who love him will always remember his ability to make every day better, as well as his infectious smile.

In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves his daughter, Fatima Guertin, and her husband, Robert, of Smithfield; his two cherished granddaughters, Elizabeth Guertin and her husband, Gregory, and Alexandra Guertin; his brother, Cassiano DePina, of Cumberland; his three nephews, Antonio DePina, Fernando DePina, Claudio Souza; and his niece, Leila Perreira. He is also survived by his two grandnephews, Michael DePina, David DePina; his two grandnieces, Juliane Viera and Beatriz Souza. He was the brother of the late Etelvina Fernandes, Natividade Maria and Maria DePina.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Fernando's Life Celebration to be held with visiting hours on Thursday, March 25, 2021, from 5 to 8 p.m., and continuing on Friday, March 26, 2021, at 9 a.m., in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Route 122, Cumberland. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m., in the Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Drive, Cumberland. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland.
