Register now for OCYL’s Cumberland Leadership Academy

CUMBERLAND – The Mayor’s Office of Children, Youth and Learning, 1464 Diamond Hill Road, Suite 2, is opening up registration for its annual Cumberland Leadership Academy at 6 p.m. on Monday, April 12.

OCYL’s Cumberland Leadership Academy has been redesigned to support middle school students in developing a more positive and open attitude toward new and unknown ideas and experiences through age-appropriate leadership skill building.

The program is now being offered at OCYL in two parts: rising 6th- and 7th-graders are invited to apply to the new “Introduction to Leadership Academy,” which will be held from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday, July 26 through 30. Rising 8th- and 9th-graders are invited to apply to the Leadership Academy being held from 9 a.m. to noon the week of Monday, Aug. 2 through 6.

With experienced staff and teachers facilitating interactive workshops and outdoor challenges on the Monastery grounds, students will begin to appreciate and learn the value of practical and effective leadership skills in a small group, states a press release. They will focus their awareness on team-building, personal mindset, self-awareness, relationship skills, public speaking, creativity, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration.

Parents of interested students must register online at www.ocyl.org . Students themselves must complete the next step of the application process by responding to a single application question that will be emailed to their parent. Seats will be assigned based on the content and time of return of this student application piece. Payment of $60 or $20 for free and reduced lunch families will be due once acceptance has been determined. The Leadership Academy is for Cumberland residents only.
