Ellen L. Winsor – Smithfield

Ellen L. Winsor, 89, of Austin Avenue, Greenville, died Sunday, March 28, 2021, at the Village at Waterman Lake in Smithfield.

She was the widow of William H. Winsor. They had been married for 52 glorious years. Highlights of their life together included family events, many vacations, cruises, stays in Florida and years of camping, until the time of his death in September, 2002.

Born in Providence, she was the cherished daughter of the late Chester and Lillian (Thomson) Boyes. She had lived in Greenville for over 70 years.

Ellen was a bookkeeper for Mental Health Association in Johnston for over 20 years before retiring.

She is survived by her five daughters: Linda Adamo and her husband, Carl, of Smithfield, Kathi Winsor and George Hollis of Wareham, Mass., Debra D'Angelo and her husband, Joseph, of Smithfield, Sandy Clark and her husband, Bob, of Simsbury, Conn., and Carol Conway and her husband, Paul, of Burrillville; her nine grandchildren: Rebecca Riordan, Tara D'Angelo, Lauren Wilson, Katie Adamo, Erin Clark, Kristen Beatson, Michelle Bailey, Sarah Clark, and Megan Clark, and four great-grandchildren. She was the beloved sister of the late Chester Boyes.

Ellen will be greatly missed by many, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She never forgot a family birthday and we all cherished her happy birthday serenade. Her last one sung was two days before she fell ill on March 18. She especially enjoyed time spent with her family and her friends, including her best friend, Eleanor, since 7th grade and her niece Nancy. Until her final year, she enjoyed her church lunch group, church book club, scrabble friends, and cousin’s luncheons. She would want us to thank all the wonderful people at the Villages at Waterman Lake who went above and beyond to become her new extended family and friends during this past year. Their kindness was so greatly appreciated by Ellen and her family.

Her funeral was private for her family. Visitation was held April 1, in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 1 Smith Ave., Greenville, RI, 02828.
