Joan M. Heroux – Woonsocket

On Monday, April 19, 2021, Joan M. Heroux, caring mother, daughter, and sister passed away after courageously battling debilitating health issues at the age of 64 years.

“Joanie,” as she was known by many of her family and friends, was born March 13, 1957, in Woonsocket, RI to Richard J. Heroux and Elaine Masse (Parenteau).

She attended North Smithfield Junior/Senior High School and graduated in 1975. Joanie worked for many years in the banking services industry. She was an active member of the Lions Club of Blackstone where she held numerous positions including Lions Club president.

She loved spending time with family and friends, and enjoyed capturing the moments with pictures. Joanie said these were “moments to treasure” and was always excited to share them with others. She cherished special occasions and the joy she radiated during those gatherings will never be forgotten.

Joanie was an avid New England sports fan, and enjoyed watching her favorite teams while dressed in her fan gear. She was also fond of music and enjoyed attending concerts.

She was deeply rooted in her faith. She sought peace and comfort, and was guided in her daily life by her devotion to God. Joan approached each day with a positive outlook and looked to inspire others to do the same.

Joan is survived by her mother, Elaine Masse; her sister, Lynn Etchingham (Heroux); her beloved sons, Chad Martin and Keith Martin; and her partner, Joseph Cullen.

She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Heroux and her stepfather, Raymond Masse.

She will be dearly missed for her kindness, energy, beautiful smile, and playful punches. Her spirit will live on in all of us as a symbol of hope and faith.

A memorial gathering will be planned for a later date to celebrate her life.

Donations can be made in Joan’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital: Ways to Give - St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
