Yvette D. Brunelle – Cumberland

Yvette D. Brunelle, 95, passed away peacefully at home in Cumberland, R.I., surrounded by her family on April 22, 2021.

She was born in Woonsocket, R.I., on December 20, 1925, to Joseph and Marie Flore (Chamberland) Turcotte. She joins many loving family members who have gone before her including her husband of 57 years, Arthur “Pete,” daughter, Loree Smith, and sisters Rita Pelletier and Germaine Cournoyer.

Yvette proudly worked at U.S. Rubber Co. in the Alice Mill supporting the World War II effort making decoy tanks and life rafts for the U.S. military and going to hairdressing school at night. She went on to open her first salon on Main Street in Woonsocket, and later, “Yvette’s” Beauty Salon out of her home on Mendon Road in Cumberland. Yvette was a true Renaissance woman, in addition to caring for her six children she was an avid knitter, painter, crafter, and bridge player. She spent countless hours in the kitchen creating meals to entertain her family and dear friends. She and Pete instilled a love of the arts in their family.

She leaves behind her children Jeffrey Brunelle, Peter Brunelle, Lisa Brunelle, Meryl Lynn Brunelle, and Cheryl Durand, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Yvette's Life Celebration will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, 5-7 p.m., in the J.J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Cumberland, R.I. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at 10 a.m. in St. Ambrose Church, 191 School St., Albion, R.I. Masks and social distancing guidelines will be observed.
