James Schofield – Cumberland

James Schofield, 82, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 25, 2021.

He was the husband of the late Jacqueline (Bennett) Schofield. Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Russell and Elsie (Follett) Schofield. He was the first baby born in 1939 at Memorial Hospital, Pawtucket.

A lifelong resident of Cumberland, Jim graduated from Cumberland High School. He was an accomplished bluegrass banjo and harmonica player, he enjoyed teaching and attending many bluegrass festivals. Jim was an accomplished auto body technician and painter. Later in 1972, he became owner of James R. Schofield & Sons Home Improvement, working with his son, Jim, for 30 years, then working for his son’s business until retirement.

He is survived by his son, James Schofield, and his wife, Rae; four grandchildren, Ashley Oxley (Tim), Jessica Correia (Jay), Jack, and Annie Schofield; four great-grandchildren, Jameson, Hudson, Julian, and soon to enter the world, Jemma. He also leaves his brother, Earl Schofield. He was the father of the late Richard, Linda, and Joanne Schofield and the brother of the late Richard Schofield.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to visiting hours on Saturday, May 1, from 10 a.m. to noon, in the O’Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland. The funeral service and burial will be private.
