Rene Degre - Woonsocket

Rene E. Degre, 81, of Front Street, on May 2, God called home, he passed peacefully at the Holiday Retirement Home, Manville. He was the husband of Patricia A. Campbell. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Exzieas and Alice (Renault) Degre.

Rene worked as a general contractor for 52 years. His hobbies included stock car racing, woodworking, and attending Pow Wows as a member of the Inter-Tribal Council of New England. He enjoyed serving as a notary and auctioneer, and was also a proud lifetime member of the Elks #850 and the American Legion.

He proudly served his country as a member of the Air Force beginning in 1956, and later with the U.S. Coast Guard. Rene was recently honored for his dedicated and faithful service during a ceremony by Beacon Hospice of East Providence.

Besides his loving wife Paricia, he leaves three step-daughters, Wendy Barry, Patricia Libby, and Carol Ballou of Florida, four daughters, Annette, Patricia, Velvet and Michelle and two sons, Normand and John, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and Dariene Pescs. He was the brother of the late Laurent and Edgar Degre.

The family would like to thank the nurses from Jamestown of the Holiday Retirement Home and Ross Burell, and Daisy Boyd-Berks of Beacon Hospice.

A private funeral with military honors will be in St. Jeans The Baptist Cemetery in Bellingham, Mass.
