Robert (Bob) Reifel - Cumberland

Robert (Bob) Reifel, 66, of Cumberland, passed away on Sunday, May 16, peacefully at home with his wife of nearly 40 years, Bernadette (Urbanek) Reifel, by his side.

Born in New York City, he was the son of the late William and Margaret (Glock) Reifel. He resided in Cumberland for the past 27 years, previously residing in Nashua, N.H. and Aurora, Colo.

A 35-year employee of Amica Insurance Company, Bob retired as a senior claims supervisor at their Lincoln headquarters. He received his CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) conferment in 1995, and spent the next several years teaching CPCU courses to fellow insurance industry professionals. He later became president of the Rhode Island CPCU Chapter and then President of the Rhode Island CPCU Scholarship Fund.

Family and friends best knew Bob for his passions in woodworking (especially his cherished hand-built wooden canoe), coin collecting, blues music and infinite knowledge of New York Yankees baseball, Giants football, and Rangers hockey stats and trivia. And lucky guests who visited the Reifel household around the holidays will never forget Bob's famous smoked turkey, beef brisket, and other mouth-watering barbecue.

In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves his three children, Rebecca Reifel and her husband Dave Thompson of Louisville, Colo., Sean Reifel and his wife Amy of Lincoln, and Samuel Reifel of Cumberland; his brother, William Reifel and his wife Norma of Smithtown, N.Y.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Bob's life celebration at J.J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Cumberland, to be held with visiting hours on Saturday, May 22, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's memory to the Davis Phinney Foundation for Parkinson's at .
