Alice P. Gardner - Smithfield

Alice P. (Davis) Gardner, 89, passed away Sunday, May 23. Born in Pawtucket, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Alice (Dawson) Davis, and former wife of the late Alfred B. Gardner Jr.

She was a resident of Smithfield for 26 years and previously lived in North Smithfield for 40 years. Mrs. Gardner worked as a secretary for many years at Woonsocket Hospital and Roger Williams Hospital. Upon her retirement in 1995, she was a vestry member, senior warden, choir member and parish administrator of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Greenville and St. James Episcopal Church in Woonsocket. Mrs. Gardner was the beloved mother of Joel B. Gardner (wife, Doreen), Phyllis E. Spaziano (husband, Michael), and the late Rev. Deacon Susan J. North (husband, Christopher); loving grandmother of Sarah and Mark Gardner, Andrew and Joseph Spaziano, and Jonathan (wife, Sarah) and Joshua North; great-grandmother of Ava and Ryan; caring sister of Edith Menard, and sister-in-law of the late Joseph Menard. She is also survived by a niece, several nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Requiem Eucharist Saturday, May 29, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Luke Episcopal Church, 99 Pierce St., East Greenwich. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Park Cemetery, Johnston. A visitation will be held Friday, May 28, from 4 to 7 p.m., in the Tucker-Quinn Funeral Chapel, 643 Putnam Ave., Greenville. Face masks and social distancing will be observed.
