Tolman’s Clark reaches semifinals of RIIL singles tennis tournament

PAWTUCKET – Tolman High senior Jeremy Clark became the first Pawtucket tennis player in recent memory to reach the semifinals of the RIIL singles tournament on Sunday afternoon at Slater Park, but unfortunately for the Holy Cross-bound standout, he suffered a 6-0, 6-4 loss in the the semis to Barrington High senior James Bogdanovic.

Clark’s first three victories of the tournament saw him defeat Barrington junior Scott Sapolsky in their opening match, 6-2, 6-4; Lincoln freshman Camden DiChiara in the next round, 6-4, 6-2; and Moses Brown senior Chris Lee in an exciting quarterfinal-round battle, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.

Clark was trying to become the first Pawtucket public school player to win a state title since Pawtucket West’s Bruce Kiernan captured the championship in 1964. Before Kiernan won his title, Pawtucket West’s Frank Durao was the state champion in 1962 and ‘63.
