Full-steam ahead for Cumberland fireworks

CUMBERLAND – Cumberland’s fireworks display will be back at Tucker Field on July 3, says Parks and Recreation Director Michael Crawley, with a rain date of July 5.

A July 5 display wouldn’t be the worst outcome, he said, as it would put all Fourth of July events on one day, including the Arnold Mills Fourth of July Parade and preceding road race.

Crawley told The Breeze he’s looking into the possibility of bringing some type of small carnival to Tucker on the night of the fireworks, and there will also be entertainment by Kelley Lennon from 6 to 9 p.m. Fireworks, as is tradition, will start around 9 p.m. There will also be food trucks on hand.

Crawley said he expects a large crowd, particularly after an initial town food truck event was packed with people. The strong attendance at that event and the similar popularity of the town’s spring track program shows that people are simply trying to get back to normal life after a pandemic.

“Everyone’s looking to get out and do something,” he said.
