Slaterettes’ inaugural ‘Dresses on the Diamond’ event is June 25

PAWTUCKET – The Pawtucket Slaterettes Girls’ & Women’s Baseball League will pay tribute to its 13-year-old Junior Division players who will be moving up to the Senior Division next year when it holds its inaugural “Dresses on the Diamond” event on Friday, June 25, at the Boys & Girls Club of Pawtucket’s baseball fields at One Moeller Place.

The event will consist of a three-inning game, which is expected to start at 7 p.m., at the conclusion of the league’s awards night ceremonies for the T-Ball, Instructional, and Junior Division. The “graduating” players will wear party dresses with their cleats and play against the league’s coaches, and a “Queen of the Diamond” will be selected by the Junior Division players and crowned during a brief ceremony on the field.

“Diamond Cleaners has graciously sponsored this event and offered to clean the girls’ dresses for free – or at least they promised to try their best – these girls are not afraid of getting dirty!” Slaterettes president Bethanie Rado reported in a press release. “The Slaterettes do not intend this event to be a financial hardship for anyone, so players are encouraged to wear a dress they already have, share dresses, or find something fun at a thrift store. Fun hair and makeup are encouraged as well.”

The Senior and Women’s Divisions will begin play on Monday, June 28.
