Irene Beauregard – Cumberland

Irene (Barrette) Beauregard, 92, of Cumberland, passed on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at the Friendly Home, Woonsocket, surrounded by her loving family.

She was the wife of the late Normand H. Beauregard. She was born in Seekonk, Mass., the daughter of the late Wilfrid and Eva (Carignan) Barrette and lived in Cumberland since 1952. She was an honors graduate of St. Xavier’s Class of 1947.

Irene worked for the Rhode Island Department of Labor in the employment services division after spending many years raising her children.

Irene was a veracious reader, a passionate landscape designer and gardener, and loved singing and playing the piano. She was a member of the Rhode Island Wild Plant Society and worked on designing and planting the URI President’s garden. She loved passing on the family traditions and recipes for making French meat pies, homemade bread, Boston baked beans and other family favorites. But most of all she was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She took great pride in her family and found happiness and joy in all of their achievements.

She is survived by six sons, Normand (Yvonne), Peter (Nancy), Paul (Jo-Anne), Mark (Lori), John (Olga), Jim (Lori); three daughters, Christine Casey (Dennis), Mary Anne Mazzarella (Tony), Lisa Patterson (Rob); 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Her memorial service will be held at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 120 Nate Whipple Highway, Cumberland, on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. Reception TBA to follow.

We’d greatly appreciate contributions made in her memory to the Rhode Island Wild Plant Society, P.O. Box 888, North Kingstown, Rhode Island 02852.
