Walter J. Kent Jr. – Cumberland

Walter J. Kent Jr., 76, of Cumberland, passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at home.

He was the lifelong friend and spouse of Louise (Baron) Monroe and father of Toni Kent Fitzgerald of Coventry, Scott Kent of the Philippines, and Jeffrey Kent of North Kingstown, and his daughter Melanie Depointe of Cumberland.

Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the former Cumberland Fire Department Chief Walter J. Kent Sr. and the late Rita (Gilbert) Kent. He was a lifelong resident of Cumberland.

Mr. Kent was the proprietor of The Carb Shop in Cumberland for over 50 years.

Walter enjoyed working on cars, racing cars and spending time with his loved ones. Most recently, he most enjoyed racing in the Cub Scouts Pinewood Derby with his grandson, Auden.

In addition to his wife and children, he leaves his sister, Sheila Kent Sanna, of North Smithfield, his 11 grandchildren and his two nieces.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to Walter's Life Celebration to be held with visiting hours on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, from 5 to 7 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Route 122, Cumberland. Burial will be held privately in the Diamond Hill Cemetery at a later date.
